My suggestion is to green your gifts. If you sew ask friends if they would like a quilt. (CO - I know I am suppose to sew your t-shirts into a quilt but I still think this is a great idea) I also think a hand written letter letting people know how much they mean to you would be priceless. Make coupons for people you love so they can cash them in to you - good for one massage, good for one "get out of going to _____" free pass. I know men will love these. For the special woman in your life offer her coupons that will lighten her load - 1 take the kids all day coupon, 1 I will clean the whole house coupon. We all want to show our love this holiday season but remember that thoughtful green gifts will make a big impact.

Small Houses

Today there was a great article on small houses. Downsizing to 100 square feet of bliss - CNN.com. This made me think I could do a smaller house. I think it would be nice to have a bedrooom that had windows on one wall. But the article lost me when Mr. Shafer purged his closets and donated all his shoes to the Salvation Army. I do not want to only have one pair of shoes. I actually would like to be buried Egyptian style and take my shoes with me. I may take Mr. Shafer up on my husband and I having two seperate houses. He can always come and visit. ....Oh can he bring me a new pair of shoes when he comes.

Ways to Clean Green

I am a half way cleaner. I clean one room at a time and by clean I mean picking up the clothing from my bedroom and putting them in bags and moving them to another room. But I do believe in using green products.

Some of the green products I like are:

Dr. Bronner: (Tonya's Pick) - Magic Soap all in One - Renowned for their quality, versatility and eco-friendliness, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps enjoyed a small but loyal following in the early years. In the late 1960s, however, soap sales started to explode, due to the unsurpassed ecological quality combined with Dr. Bronner’s urgent message to realize our transcendent unity across religious and ethnic divides. Word-of-mouth soon made Dr. Bronner’s the iconic soap of that era, and in the decades that followed the soaps spread into every health food store in the U.S. and then into the mainstream as well -- winning over fans from all walks of life on the way to becoming the number-one-selling natural brand of soap in North America. I personally like the lavender and the almond.

Mrs Meyers - Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day cleaning supplies make cleaning your home fresh, fun, and fragrant. All of our cleaning supplies are made with natural essential oils, are biodegradable and phosphate-free, and we never test on animals. Whether you use our All Purpose Cleaner (good for just about everything) our Dish Soap (cuts grease like nobody’s business), or any of our other cleaning supplies, you’ll find our products are good for your house, your nose, and the environment. My favorite Lemon Verbena

Make your own - Women's Voices for the Earth (www.womenandenvironment.org) has a link to several recipes for non toxic cleaners. Try this non toxic cleaner. Mix two cups of white vinegar and two cups of water. Add a few drops of essential oil if you like (I like lemon or lavender). To boost the cleaning power for tough jobs, microwave (or heat on the stove for the non-microwave crowd) until barely hot.

Half Green Life Birth

Today is the Birthday of Half Green Life. Anyone who knows me knows that Birthdays are extremely important to me so please remember this next year. The purpose of this blog is to inform and educate people about green living but in a new way. I live my life in a half green way and I dont want to be judged for it. I still wear leather and I run my air condition in the winter. I believe that green living is a process and together we can all do our part to save the earth. The blog will be composed of educational material from different venues and rants from me and my friends. I pledge to at least write once a week and I hope to have a least one reader. If there are topics you want to know about or have me research feel free to leave a note.

So Welcome to Half Green Life!!
